On October 18, 2022, Central Election Commission (CEC) Commissioner Dr. Chih-Cheng Meng attended the 5th General Assembly and Extraordinary Executive Board Meeting of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) and the CEC was elected as the Oversight and Audit Committee member.
A-WEB is an international electoral organization established in 2013. It currently has 119 member Election Management Bodies (EMBs) around the world. A-WEB was founded with the vision to efficiently and effectively spread free, fair, transparent, and participative elections worldwide. A-WEB actively supports countries undergoing a democratic transition and promotes exchange of experience and expertise among Electoral Management Bodies.
CEC is a founding member of A-WEB and was elected and re-elected as an Executive Board member at the 3rd General Assembly in 2017 and the 4th General Assembly in 2019. According to A-WEB Charter, an Executive Board member could serve up to two consecutive terms. To fulfill member’s obligation and participate in the affairs of the A-WEB, the CEC was successfully elected as an Oversight and Audit Committee member. The CEC thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its assistance in making this mission accomplished. In the future, the CEC will continue to promote international election exchanges and cooperation, enhance Taiwan's international participation and visibility, and fulfill its international obligations to win the support of the international community for Taiwan's democracy.
